Statement by Lee Ching-yu, wife of Lee Ming-che, at Taoyuan International Airport (Please refer to buttom for English version)

On my way to the airport, I received a message from Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs

Council (MAC) saying my “Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents” had been annulled.

I am utterly surprised, shocked and sad.

Does the Chinese government really need to use such powerful force to block me, a mere woman, on a supervised visit?

What motive, reason or intention do they have to stop me?

This action only confirms to the outside world that there indeed is a political conspiracy behind the Chinese government’s arrest of Lee Ming-che.

Even as an incredibly strong country, China still uses such cowardly tricks.

I really can only be at the mercy of others.

China’s Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) said they sent a letter to me “based on humanitarian considerations”, but the truth is:

Lee Chun-min (李俊敏) has carried out threats, intimidation and bribery against me. I was left with no options but to request a letter of guarantee from him as evidence.

Why can’t I accept this kind of guarantee from him?

Because I believe:

Freedom and integrity must be had together,

If there’s freedom but no respect,

Then what difference is there between a man’s life and that of a dog?

I don’ want Lee Ming-che to live the same as a dog.
